THE SUMMIT IS BACK!

We're pleased to announce that the 2010 Vermont Summit on Sexual Violence is scheduled for September 22, 2010 at the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, Vermont. Picking up where we left off last year, this year's theme is "Strengthening Our Response". We're putting together a great line-up of workshops that will help everyone who works with sexual to strengthen their response! Stay up to date at summit.ourhousevt.org.

O.U.R. House of Central Vermont, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that is proud to be both Central Vermont's Children's Advocacy Center and the Washington County Unit for Special Investigations. The letters "OUR" form an acronym for "One Unified Response" which is the reason OUR House was established. We knew, in 1989, that it was important to make it as easy as possible for our children and their families to go through the process of reporting abuse and the resulting investigation.

Established in 1989, OUR House is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary of helping Central Vermont's children in 2009. OUR House is a Charter Member of the National Children's Alliance and was Vermont's first Children's Advocacy Center.

The purpose of Children’s Advocacy Centers is to provide a comprehensive, culturally competent, multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse in a dedicated, child-friendly setting. A child appropriate/child-friendly setting and a multidisciplinary team are essential for accomplishment of the mission of Children’s Advocacy Centers.

Now, OUR House is proud to announce that it is also establishing the Special Investigative Unit for Washington County, Vermont. Not unlike the objective of Children's Advocacy Centers, Special Investigative Units (or SIUs) are a multi-disciplinary task force that investigates sexually based crimes (both against adults and children). Eventually, the Special Investigative Units will also investigate domestic violence and crimes against vulnerable people (mentally and physically disabled).
