OUR Jobs
OUR House has two major projects that serve Central Vermont. The first is as the Washington County Children's Advocacy Center and the second is the Washington County Unit for Special Investigations.
As a Children's Advocacy Center, we work to address child sexual abuse. As with other Children's Advocacy Centers, a multi-disciplinary team makes up the core of our response to child sexual abuse. We recruit professionals from State and Washington County law enforcement, the Department for Children and Families, the Department of Corrections, mental health professionals, victim advocacy groups, and, of course, OUR House staff. By gathering all of these professionals, we are able to both focus resources and benefit from the team's collective expertise and experience. This results in fair and effective investigations and assurance that services are made available to victims and their families.
As a Special Investigative Unit, we work to address all sexual abuse, as well as cases of serious child abuse. The Special Investigative Unit employs the same core concept that we have been employing for years as a Children's Advocacy Center: empanel a multi-disciplinary team to investigate crimes and assure victims are supported through the process.
In addition, we facilitate the Sexual Assault Response Team (or SART) which is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals from diverse fields to respond to sex crimes in OUR Community. SART members include OUR House staff, investigators from the Department for Children and Families, law enforcement officers, victim advocates, prosecutors, and medical and mental health professionals.
