ACCOUNTABILITY

n. [uh-koun-tuh-bil-i-tee] the state of being accountable or answerable to the communities we serve and the donors who support us.

We take our responsibility to Central Vermont’s children very seriously and hold ourselves to the highest standards. We also expect those we serve, and those who support us, to also hold us to the same high standards. One of the steps we take to remain accountable is to publish data about the number of people we serve (without risking making an abused child identifiable). Beginning June 2009 (services provided in May 2009), we will publish statistics about the number of investigations started, prevention services provided, and support services provided.
  • Investigations & Interviews
The information for investigations contains only the number of investigations that began during the period and the town where the victim is living in order to assure that we do not inadvertently identify an abused child.

Between 2005 and 2007, we averaged 55 interviews per year (or an average of 4.5 per month). In 2008, we saw a 43% increase to 72 interviews per year (or an average of 6 per month).
  • Prevention Services
Prevention services are very important to OUR House because these are our ways of reaching out to the children and families who live in our communities to provide them with education and information that will better enable them to identify circumstances and avoid situations in which child abuse has been known to happen.
  • Family Support Services
Our support services include responding to parents' inquiries about sexual abuse and the investigative/prosecution processes, sitting with parents whose children are being interviewed, and the like.
