Sam and the Free Press are the first to be recognized for exceptional efforts on behalf of victims. Sam's reporting on the case of a child who was allegedly sexually abused by her parents did not disclose the parents' identities in order to protect the child. The Free Press' policy of protecting victims' identities will make it easier for victims to come forward because they will have less fear of being publicly identified.
